Ananda
Krishnan is a Malaysian
businessman, born on 1938. Nicknamed A K, currently he is estimated to have a net worth of
US$7.9 billion according to
Forbes' latest annual list of wealthiest people, making him the second
wealthiest in Malaysia and number 129 in the world.
Open culture- a concept according to which knowledge should be spread freely and its
growth should come from developing, altering or enriching already existing works
on the basis of sharing and collaboration
AK is an
example of an entrepreneur with open culture characteristics. His first entrepreneurial venture
was a Malaysian consultancy MAI Holdings Sdn Bhd. He also set up Exoil Trading,
which went on to purchase oil drilling concessions in various countries. After
that, he moved into gambling. He started diversifying into the multimedia arena
early 1990s. Currently, he has business interests in media like Astro,
satellite like MEASAT and SE, oil and gas like Bumi Armada and Pexco,
telecommunications like Maxis, Aircel
and Sri Lanka Telecom.
AK
shows that he was an open culture person when remove Maxis Bhd. from the
Malaysian stock exchange in order to privatize the company to cater to global
market. He also maintains relations within the government sector in order to
create awareness about his service to the society. AK decided to privatize Maxis and
promote the company globally for its investment benefits. Moreover, his actions
would also be beneficial to his community as it hypes the name of his country
Malaysia and a successful Malaysian.
As a conclusion, open
culture is a characteristic that develops a person’s character. An entrepreneur
should develop this character so that he can have more opinion from different
views before taking a solid decision.
